Unlike the previous three Fridays, the weather for the Christopher-Zeigler-Royalton Homecoming game against Sesser-Valier-Waltonville-Woodlawn was clear and made for a pleasant night to watch high school football. Unfortunately, it was not a pleasant outcome for the very nice CZR homecoming crowd as Sesser-Valier-Waltonville-Woodlawn rolled to a 50-8 victory.

Perhaps “ran” to a 50-8 victory is a better choice as the Red Devils piled up an unofficial 492 rushing led by Zach Ashby 203 yards on the ground on twelve carries.

The Red Devils’ Reid Basso returned the opening kickoff 30 yards and, with the addition of a 15 yard penalty against the Bearcats, started the game 1st and 10 on the CZR 24 yard line.

On the first play from scrimmage, Ashby carried it in for the score. Jaylon Malone ran in the conversion and with 11:45 in the first quarter the Red Devils were up 8-0.

CZR threatened several times, but it wasn’t until the third quarter that they were able to put points on the board.

A Kaeleb Pedigo 61 yard touchdown pass to Steven Anderson was nullified by a penalty, but the Cats kept fighting and Colton Phillips managed a four yard touchdown scamper with 3:04 in the period. Pedigo ran in the conversion and the score was cut to 36-8.

S-V-W-W continued their ground assault and managed to control the rest of the game.
